Fixing a broken immigration system... is not going to be a priority during the President's last year in the Office.
I wanted to share this post because, frankly, given the amount of headlines on immigration issues lately, I expected the President would unveil some program designed to address the immigration reform. However, in his annual update to Congress, also known as the State of the Union address, which took place last night January 12, 2016, he touched immigration only lightly.
While he used words "immigration" or "immigrant(s)" five times in his speech, there was no discussion of the reform. Other priorities will dominate President's Obama's agenda in the last year: the economy and equal opportunity for all in it; technology and climate change; international security without America's spending money on policing the world; and, reform of the politics designed to bring out the best in the American political system... The full speech is available on Business Insider.
In the meantime, the prospects for easing lives of immigrants remain remote. Disappointing.
